I can now (fox) die a happy man!

After the recent success of Metal Gear Solid 4 many of us have been on the hunt for all the previous titles. I am one fo those persons. To be honest, I have been searching around for the original Metal Gear Solid on PSone for just under 8 months now. Finding the Platinum version was no problem but getting hold of the elusive first edition was nigh-on impossible…until yesterday.

I popped into my local retro store to have a look for Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. Unfortunately, they didn’t have it, but in all things holy, they actually had the original Metal Gear Solid with all manuals, discs (including the Silent Hill demo) and all in mint condition! Hastily getting my money ready, I asked how much:

Me: “How much?”

Store clerk: “£50” ($100 roughly)

Me: “Oh…”

After all my searching. All my adventures. I finally found the essence to my collection…but affording it was another thing. I don’t mind throwing money around, I’m actually really good at that, but the problem is I have to pay for the holiday this year…

I left that store with a tear in my eye. Of all the luck. Why did I have to pay for some damned holiday? After “Grr-ing” and seething I attempted to carry on about my business for the rest of the day. I’m currently in the dilemma of needing to upgrade my HDD for the PS3.

I popped into CEX (that name always makes me giggle – like a little girl) and had a browse at all the Hard Drives. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the right size so I had a naughty peak behind there counter. Again, no sign of the right HDD but what I did see was a present from the heavens. On top of a stack of rubbish DVDs and broken CD cases lay a plastic wallet. Inside that wallet was MGS. All in pristine condition with all the bits and pieces, but no case.

Hastily, I grabbed the nearest assistant and asked “How much!?” with a reply of, “Umm…I dunno. £2?”

SOLD!

Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine!Yeah. It didn’t have the case but I didn’t mind. I could now play out my childhood memories. I was over the moon. Waiting for the money to go from my card into there pockets, the store clerk went to make sure selling the game was okay without the case. Upon his arrival, he handed me the original, non-platinum, almost brand new case! He told me that they had just found it no more than 2 minutes ago!

I finally have it. In all it’s glory with nothing missing. I can now die a happy man.

(Hang on. I still need VR-Missions!!!)
